Unlike classic massage therapy, Deep Tissue Massage focuses on a specific problem such as an area of chronic pain, limited mobility, recovery from injuries (whiplash, falls, sports injuries), repetitive strain injuries (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome), postural problems, and muscle tension or spasms.
These sessions incorporate your much lower levels of fascia during treatment. Deep connective tissues and muscles are not as affected by Swedish massage. DT uses much slower and deep strokes in order to reach those layers down deep. Deep and direct pressure will be applied to rigid bands of muscles, called adhesions, in order to break them apart and realign the tissues.
Not only will Deep Tissue have a very positive physical affect but there are some internal advantages to this technique. Deep Tissue will release lactic acid in the muscles relieving soreness all over the body. Not only does it create flow through the muscles but the blood flow will improve. With better circulation high blood pressure may be improved with treatment. Massage is proven to decrease stress levels as well, by releasing serotonin into the body. Making patients not only happier on the outside but the inside will feel better!
Deep Tissue therapy is a much more intense treatment then other lighter massage. It requires constant client-therapist communication throughout the session. In order to feel satisfied with the treatment the client must voice how they are feeling throughout, understand contraindications for deep work, and be hydrated before and after a session. Drinking plenty of water will help the process of flushing all toxins and acids causing stress and pain. Please understand deep work is not for everyone and each person should be confident they are a good candidate for Deep Tissue Therapy. Please contact the office or by email with any questions on your decision!
